• VMS Guidelines for Elections: President & Vice President for Student Council

     

    2020 - 2021

     

    We are looking for Students who have strong school sprit! And a passion for supporting VMS! These students must exhibit positive leadership abilities, a good attitude, and a strong work ethic.  High standards have been set for students who seek to be elected by their peers to as our President and Vice President. Students elected to these positions will be required to spend many hours after school organizing and participating in fundraising activities and serve our school and community by volunteering.  In order to become a candidate for student council, you must fully understand and be able to meet the following requirements:

     

    Character & Citizenship:

    1. Each member must be willing to give a great deal of time and hard work building School moral. This will require time outside of the school day.
    2. As mentioned before, each member must exhibit positive leadership, high moral character, good citizenship, and cooperation with the entire student body and to teachers. You must also keep in mind that you represent VMS outside of school, so these standards must be maintained in the community as well.

     

    Conduct /Grade Level requirements:

    1. You must adhere to the VMS discipline policy.
    2. Must be in good standing with the VMS Attendance policy.
    3. President must be an 8th grader and Vice President can be from the 7th grade or 8th grade.
    4. Faculty Co-advisors will interview each candidate to determine eligibility.

     

    Grade Requirements:

    1. At the time of applications, all candidates must have a 2.5 G.PA or higher – these standards must be maintained throughout the year.

     

    Guidelines for the Election Process:

    • In order to run, you must attend a Google Mandatory Candidate meeting on Oct 6th at 3:00 PM. This date will be announced during the morning and afternoon announcements.
    • Signed Commitment/Parental Permission Slip is due Oct 9.
    • Video Speeches are due Oct 23, 8:00 AM – late Videos will not be excepted.
    • In order to run, candidates must create a 1 to 2-minute iPad video speech that will be aired in HR week from the week of Oct 26 to Oct 30. In fact, the videos will be placed in the Student Council Google Classroom and the 2020 Election Campaign Google Classroom, for all students to review, including our remote students.
    • A Student Council Campaign Site for Posters - see the 2020 Election Campaign Google Classroom. Each Candidate can make up to 7 posters and have them displayed. All Posters must be approved by Mrs. Love & Scheurenbrand. Poster can be hung as early as Oct 27th.
    • Elections will be held on November 3rd. *** School is Remote*** all students will vote on their iPADs - instructions will be provided, so don't worry!
    • Officers will be installed no later than November 13, 2020.
