About our classroom
Welcome to Ms. Lewis's Reading and Language Arts class! In this class, students will begin to dig deeper into reading and writing skills by analyzing texts and practicing writing in different genres. Students will have the opportunity to take ownership of their learning by reading independent novels, writing about topics that interest them, practicing spelling words they struggle with, and having meaningful conversations about topics they care about. It is my goal to help each student cultivate a strong sense of intrinsic motivation and a spirit of excitement toward both reading and writing.
I have lived in the Voorhees-area for a majority of my life. I attended Gibbsboro Elementary School from grades K-8 and graduated from Eastern Regional High School. I always had a passion for literature and composition, and majored in English with minors in Spanish and Childhood Studies at Rutgers University-Camden. I completed the Teacher Preparation Program and earned my MA in English and Media Studies from Rutgers University-Camden. I completed my student teaching at Voorhees Middle School and have been working here as a Reading/Language Arts teacher since 2019. I love being part of the extraordinary VMS family. Here at VMS you can find me in room D7, supervising 6th grade lunch in the Old Café, or working as the assistant Yearbook Supervisor. When I'm not at school you can find me on the beach with my head in a book or drinking a cup of iced coffee with my cats.
