Welcome to our reading class! This year, we will continue to develop our reading strategies and vocabulary acquisition skills. Throughout reading our novels, we will enhance our understanding of story elements, figurative language, and new vocabulary. Some of the topics we will cover this year include:
- Story Elements: Setting, Conflict, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution, Conclusion, Theme, & Characterization
- Figurative Language: Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Onomatopoeia, Alliteration, Idiom, Hyperbole
- Reading Skills: Citing text evidence, Utilizing text features, Identifying central ideas and details
Some of our learning activities this year include:- Daily vocabulary activities
- Daily read-alouds, partner reading, literature circles
- Daily individual reading response activities/reader's workshop
- Daily interactive reading response/review activities
- Weekly non-fiction reading activities
Our reading goals are focused on enhancing a child's interest in reading, developing the essential skills needed in order to read for understanding or pleasure, and gaining information in today's world.
