Welcome to 6th grade Science!! We will be exploring topics from the three main branches of science: Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science. I expect you to come into class each day prepared and ready to learn. You will be expected to enter class, complete a Warm-Up, and then transition into taking notes or a class discussion. This classroom will be a comfortable, educational, safe environment for you to participate and discuss topics with your peers. For us to all have a successful school year everyone must work together, respect yourself, your classmates and Ms. O’Neill, and follow all directions.
50% Tests and Long-Term Projects
40% Quizzes and Graded Assignments
Tests and Long Term Projects
All tests and project due dates will be announced. There will be a test after every major chapter. There will be at least three (3) tests each marking period. The test dates will be announced at least a week in advance. There will be study guides provided to help prepare for the test and review games. Most projects we have ample time to work on in class and the due date is posted when the project is assigned.
Quizzes, Graded Assignments
Quizzes will be given periodically given throughout the marking period. The quizzes are meant to assess the understanding on the current topic being covered. Any assignment that I grade can be counted as a quiz grade. Announcements will be made that an assignment will be graded as a quiz grade.
Homework is an important tool in helping reinforce concepts and ideas from class. Homework will be posted on the board each day and students are responsible for writing the assignment and the due dates. Homework is checked for completeness, not correctness. We will either as a class review the homework or I will post answer keys to the homework on ebackpack so students can check their answers. If you do not have your homework on the day it is due, it will be entered as a “0” in my grade book.
If you are absent for a day or numerous days all of my objectives, notes, and sheets will be posted on ebackpack. Also I will have the objective and any missing notes printed out for you for when you return.
If any student needs extra help I am very flexible in meeting to help you understand the concept. I can meet during your lunch period or after school every day except Fridays. If you stay after school I need a written note or email from your parents a day before.
**I will post all assignments on iCal and send Reminds out***
