FAQ's
What does my child need for school?

Your child will need the following: one box of tissues, one container of hand soap, one art smock (labeled with child's name in a clear zip lock bag).
-
Please obtain a list of supplies for first graders from the office for additional supplies needed.
How will I know about my child's progress?
-
You may contact me at any time to discuss your child's progress. I can be reached by email or by phone ( ext: 71105). I will also have scheduled conferences in the fall and report cards are sent out four times a year.
What should I do if my child is sick and will not be attending school?
-
Please call the school nurse and report your child absent. You may leave a message on her voice mail. Please email me, as well.
My child has a play date after school with another child in the class. I would like my child to go home with his/her parent. What should I do?
-
Please write a note and let me know that your child will be going home with another parent. The parent of the other child will also need to write a note to let me know that they will be taking your child home.
Can I contribute a snack to the classroom?
- You may contribute a bagged snack for our classroom. We do have a regularly scheduled snack time. Please send your child in with their snack each day. We snack while we are working in the afternoon, so PLEASE don't send anything messy! :)
What if my child is Student of the Week?
-
During this special week, your child will share wonderful things about herself or himself. You will receive a packet which your child will complete. Your child may use photographs, or magazine and computer pictures to complete his/her project. Please place your completed display on a large poster board so he/she can share it with our class. You are invited in to share this special day. A formal invitation will be sent home inviting you to join us virtually to read a special book with the class and your child!
I would like to be the room parent or SHPFArepresentative. How do I let you know?
-
I will send a note home in September asking you to send a note to school if you are interested in volunteering.
I am not a room parent, but may I attend the classroom parties?
-
Our room parents will be in charge of the parties. The room parents will organize attendance to each party. I will send home a notice in the beginning of the year and you can tell us how you would like to help and your availability. The day before the party you will receive a name tag to wear that day. I encourage you to leave younger siblings at home as our parties can get quite crowded.
Will my child have homework?
-
Your child will have homework Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. In addition to their assignments, PLEASE practice the reading words each night for five or ten minutes. I will be sending home suggestions to help make that practice more enjoyable. On special nights your child will be asked to read their story from their school reader. Please remember to only read the assigned story. Reading ahead will interfere with future classroom activities, especially predicting!
I want to order books from Seesaw Book Club. What are the procedures for ordering books?
-
I will send the Seesaw Club order form home about once a month. Please return your order within one week from the time you receive it. I can not accept cash. Please send a check made out to See Saw Book Club.
My child has been absent from school due to illness. How can I receive the work she or he missed?
-
I will save the missed work and will send it home with your child upon his/her return. Please complete the missed work over the next few evenings. If you would like to pick up work, please call me the day before you plan to pick it up.
