• COUNSELING PROGRAMS

    children

     

         The following groups are available to all students upon teacher or parent recommendation. The groups consist of approximately 5 children from the same grade level who meet once a week 30 minutes for 6 weeks typically during their science/s.s. time.   A successful group provides peer support, acknowledges feelings and improves self-understanding.  It may also improve school work, general behavior and peer relations.

    All students also participate in classroom guidance lessons throughout the school year.

    S.M.I.L.E.S (Students Making Improvements Learning Everyday Skills) (Social Skills/ friendships)

    • Learn how to engage and interact respectfully with others
    • Learn to build friendships
    • Learn how thoughts and feelings influence behaviors
    • Build self-esteem
    • Understand one’s values and worth

     

     

    Emoger Leaders

    • Identify and clarify students’ feelings and behaviors 
    • Give students an opportunity to learn communication and coping skills
    • Help discover positive aspects of the situation they are in

     

     

    Taking Charge 

    • Social and emotional skills
    • Learn how to manage and regulate emotions
    • Take responsibility for actions
    • Learn how thoughts and feelings influence behaviors
    • Learn daily executive functioning skills

     

    Worry Warriors

    • Learn what worry is and why we worry
    • Recognize the signs of worry in our bodies
    • Learn healthy coping strategies to combat worry

     

     

     

     

     4.  LUNCH BUNCHES 
       
    The children from grades second through fifth are invited to participate in the Lunch Bunch Group. The children have their lunch in the Counselor's Room  with the Counselor.  We laugh, relax, play games, and  just have fun.  The goal is for the children have their lunch with their classmates in a small quiet setting. The Lunch Bunch allows the children to feel comfortable in the Counselor's Room and to know it is a safe and welcoming place to go.
     
          
     
     
     
     
     
     

    COMMON SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING
     
     
     

      All group members need to learn to:

    • Listen.

    • Process feeling by:
      - Increasing their vocabulary of feeling words.
      - Sharing their feelings with other group members.
      - Understanding that feeling are tied to actions.

    • Develop self-esteem by:
      - Being able to make choices.
      - Accepting the consequences of their actions.
