• In addition to our reading program, Wonders, Grades K-2 will continue to use Fundations.  Fundations is an explicit, systematic, multi-sensory program.  It addresses phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.  These components are considered to be critical parts of the reading process.

This intense focus on early reading intervention is key to success.  The skils are taught using visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic modalities.  The handwriting component is taught using multisensory techniques which are highly motivating.  The letters and sounds are paired with key words to enable students to commit the sounds to memory.  Some of the fun techniques include magnetic letter tile manipulation, tapping sounds, see-say-write, scooping with fingertips, and sky writing.  Progress monitoring tools are used to ensure that students are working towards mastery.
