We are in the process of transitioning to a new literacy program called Wonders. This program is aligned to the science of reading. The program encompasses researched, standards-based,differentiated instruction. Students are able to make real-life connections by reading, listening, discussing, and writing about texts. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is embedded into the program. The online resources include engaging learning games.
Our reading program is called Journeys. It is a standards-based, research-based program with an emphasis on analyzing text for deeper meaning. The components of the program include student textbooks, consumable workbooks, trade books, leveled readers, intervention materials, etc. The components address reading, phonics, vocabulary, grammar, writing, and spelling. Best of all, the stories include some of our old favorites (Winn Dixie comes to mind) and some quality new ones from a variety of genres!
Journeys also includes an online component which includes everything listed above. Teachers have access to many interactive lessons, extra leveled readers, and videos to share with the class. Students can view their assignments and text online. They can annotate and highlight the text. Written responses from their online notebook can be shared with the teacher. This online component should enable our students to feel excited about this program!
