Signal Hill Parents,

Updated Schedule for the Last Day of School – Thanks to Hurricane Sandy, the last day of school has been changed to Monday, June 24.  Friday, June 21 and Monday, June 24 are early dismissal days.  The Fifth Grade Luncheon will be held on Thursday, June 20.

Parent Volunteer Tea – Our annual Parent Volunteer Tea to thank all the parents who have generously donated their time to the students and staff of Signal Hill School will be held tomorrow, Thursday, May 16, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Library.  Invitations were sent home with your child and are also available on the Virtual Backpack.

Signal Hill Spring Instrumental Concert –   Our annual Spring Instrumental Concert will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the All Purpose Room at Signal Hill.  This concert will feature the Signal Hill Beginning Band, Advanced Band, and String Ensemble.  Invite the whole family – there is plenty of seating!  Please click on the link below for more information including arrival time and concert attire.

Signal Hill Spelling Bee –  Please click on the link below for a Spelling Bee Permission Form that must be completed for all students in Grades 3-5.  Permission forms also came home in your child’s backpack! The Fifth Annual Signal Hill Spelling Bee is coming soon!  Spelling word lists will be available on the Virtual Backpack after May 14.  Round 1 for 3^rd and 4^th Grade is Tuesday, May 28 and for 5th Grade is Friday, May 31.

Signal Hill Art EXPO and 1st Grade Concert - Our annual EXPO night and 1^st Grade Concert will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.  Invite the whole family to view your child’s art work, classroom projects, and listen to our 1^st Graders perform their spring concert.

SHPFA Science Day is coming soon!    Science Day is Thursday, May 30.  This educational and fun-filled day sponsored by SHPFA includes multiple morning workshops and an afternoon assembly for students.  If you are interested in volunteering to assist a presenter (9 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.) please e-mail Liz Byham, Science Day Chairperson, at lizbyham@hotmail.com .  Fourth grade students need to bring in a large plastic container (plastic pretzel or cookie containers work great!) and food scraps for their composting workshop.  A flier is coming home with all fourth graders with more about this.

SHPFA Ice Cream Social – You helped make the school year sweet, we’d like to thank you with a treat!  Please join SHPFA for an Ice Cream Social on Friday, June 7 from 6:3o to 8:30 p.m. on the Signal Hill Playground.  There is no charge for Signal Hill Students and Parents!

Fifth Grade Parents – Please mark your calendars! – VMS Principal, Dr. Diane Young, and VMS 6^th Grade Assistant Principal, Mrs. Denise Costigan, will be visiting parents at each of the elementary schools to discuss details and answer questions about your child’s transition to Middle School.  They will be visiting Signal Hill on Thursday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m.
