SHPFAs purpose is to facilitate cooperation between parents and teachers in the education of their children. The organization strives to meet this challenge by:

These meetings provide an opportunity for parents to learn about the important issues facing our school and the many activities that take place at Signal Hill. Membership Membership in SHPFA is open to all faculty and families of Signal Hill School students. Membership forms are distributed in September and will be available at general meetings as well as Back to School Nights. Membership dues are $7.00 per family and faculty member. Membership allows you to become an active participant in SHPFA, allows you to join a committee, and allows you a voting voice. A family membership allows two members of the household to vote. SHPFA Activities SHPFA sponsors many events during the year, some to raise money, and others to promote community spirit. See above for event dates. President Melissa Miller 767-1003 e-mail mopp22@verizon.net The Community Service Committee strives to teach our children the importance of contributing to their community choosing new projects each year. Past projects have included the Thanksgiving Adopt A family, the Giving Tree, and a canned goods drive. The Sunshine Committee is responsible for welcoming new families into our school, and helping those in need in our school community. The President will also be responsible for maintaining communication among the Homeroom Parents. First Co-Vice Presidents Stephanie Krause 767-8844 e-mail skrause27@verizon.net Caryn Spector 210-6276 e-mail cspec0609@gmail.com The Cultural Arts Committee organizes various assemblies for our children designed to broaden their exposure to the arts. The Hospitality Committee will provide refreshments at all SHPFA meetings, the New Parent Tea, and any Board of Education meetings hosted by Signal Hill. The Service Committee organizes the School Store, School Supply Sale, and Helping Hands. Second Vice President Susan Delaney 986-6009 e-mail sdelaney@coriell.org The Second Vice President is responsible for all fund raising. This year we are planning another exciting night out at the Spring Fashion Show and Auction. There will be additional fundraising events throughout the year. Furthermore, we will continue to collect Boxtops for Education labels. We also track purchases from Genuardis and Target, each of which provides us with revenue dependant on our level of activity. The success of our fundraisers has enabled SHPFA to purchase many items for the school including computers, playground equipment, library books, and cultural arts assemblies. This year we have two planned The Fall Festival and Family Fun Night in February. We may also add movie night, bowling night, and/or a skating party. Additionally, the Social Committee organizes the Staff Appreciation Luncheon and fifth grade promotion activities. Secretary Noreen Miller 768-1217 e-mail jerseymillers@verizon.net The Secretary oversees all of SHPFAs publicity, which includes fliers, the bulletin board, and SHPFA News. The Secretary is also responsible for the school yearbook and the school directory. Treasurer Toi Gunn 520-7403 e-mail jgunncrew@gmail.com The Treasurer organizes and maintains all SHPFA membership information and is responsible for all money collected and disbursed. A Treasurer is also responsible for communications with the IRS. |
