Procedures |
| The Library Media Center is open throughout the school day and approximately 30 minutes before school opens and 30 minutes after the end of the school day. Students are always welcome in the LMC during the school day with the approval of their classroom teacher. The children are schedules for a 30 minute instructional period every week. |
- The children in grade 1 may have one book from the LMC checked out at one time. After the winter break that number is usually increased to two.
- Students in grades 2 may borrow two books at a time.
- Up to three books may be taken out by the 3rd and 4th graders.
- Member of our 5th grade take out three books and may with the approval of Mrs. Lockspeiser have additional titles. The 5th graders are also granted permission to borrow magazines.
- The LMC also has a reference collection, magazines and several computers which the children use for reference searching and academic enrichment. We presently subscribe to Grolier Online, World Book Online and Ebscohost through the South Jersey Regional Cooperative.
- There are no book fines charged for overdue books. Students who have overdue books may be asked to take an overdue notice home, telephone home, or lose some library privileges, depending on the length of time the book or books are overdue. The policy is carefully explained to the students and every attempt is made to be fair. Books need to be returned but the students should not be fearful of unfair treatment if a book is one or two weeks late.
- The students will be billed for missing or damaged books. We strongly encourage children to search at home or in their classrooms before paying for a book. Very few books actually turn up missing, most are just in hiding and surface in the most unusual places.
